The Calm in Complete Chaos

Brick by Brick

Nothing is built in a day. Everything meaningful—whether a dream, a love, or a life—is built, brick by brick.

In the beginning, we know nothing. It’s only when we become curious, when we allow ourselves to care, that we begin to understand. And it’s through that understanding that we learn how to take the first step, then the next, laying each brick with intention.

You see, you can’t build a house without first understanding that it’s a house you want. You can’t build a house without gathering the right bricks. And you certainly can’t build a house without realizing that it comes together by placing one brick at a time, layer by layer.

But we’ve grown impatient—with life, with love, with ourselves. We want things to happen instantly. We expect dreams to materialize the moment we wish for them. We hope love will appear fully formed, without work or understanding. Whether it’s our goals, our desires, or our relationships, we yearn for immediacy and forget that everything worth having requires time, effort, and care.

We chase our dreams because we’ve seen fleeting glimpses of what could be. We pursue love because we crave connection, both emotional and physical. Yet so often, we try to shortcut the process—dumping a barrel of bricks in a pile, expecting it to magically transform into a house.

But dreams, desires, and love are fragile pieces of life’s journey. To truly achieve them, we must embrace the process of building, one brick at a time. It’s not about racing to the finish line; it’s about what we learn along the way.

Dreams remain dreams until we wake up and begin to construct a solid foundation beneath them. Each brick—each small action or lesson—adds strength to that foundation. And even when failure comes, as it inevitably will, a well-laid foundation ensures we’ll never fall to nothing.

Love, too, requires patience and understanding. It isn’t just about yearning or attachment—it’s about learning what love truly means. It’s looking at the people you care for and saying, “For you, I’m willing to understand a world I never knew before.” Love is multifaceted. It demands humility and the courage to set aside pride and ego to build something lasting—not just with a partner, but with anyone you share your life with. Brick by brick, you construct a relationship that can weather life’s storms.

And sometimes, the walls we’ve already built must come down. Brick by brick, we must dismantle the barriers that protect us but also isolate us. In their place, we can build something new—something that welcomes growth, truth, and connection.

Brick by brick, life teaches us to let go of impatience, to embrace the journey, and to honor the work it takes to create something beautiful. Whether it’s a dream, a love, or a life, it’s never about shortcuts. It’s about the deliberate act of building, one small piece at a time.

About Me

I’m no one more special than any of you reading this. I work as a custodian during the evenings but every other time of the day I spend chasing a dream I’ve had since I was 16.
I have always believed there to be more to this life and I hope with this blog, my stories and journey in life, that I can share my experiences with all of you.
