The Calm in Complete Chaos

Life Isn’t About Being Happy

What I’ve come to understand about life is the beauty of life itself — the spectrum on which it exists and unfolds. When we talk about life, let’s stop and look at it differently for a moment.

What is the definition of happy? Of sad? We reduce happiness to a smile and sadness to a frown. Happiness is something that gives us joy; sadness is something that breaks our heart. But now I’d like to ask — what is life?

You can’t know happiness without sadness, just as you can’t understand life without death. Since the beginning, there has existed a duality that allows us to understand what cannot be understood. This is life. Life is simply living. To search for happiness alone is meaningless because happiness cannot exist without its opposite. We need to experience pain, chaos, and suffering to understand the simple act of living.

Happiness isn’t a constant — it’s a fleeting moment, a brief light in the dark. But when you feel it, let yourself feel it. It is within suffering that happiness becomes more defined, more appreciated, more loved. Sadness gives happiness its meaning; without it, joy would lose its depth.

So much of the world is consumed by the idea of “finding happiness.” But maybe finding peace is more accurate. Peace in the chaos, peace in the fleeting highs and inevitable lows. We suffer not because life is cruel, but because suffering teaches us resilience — it shows us what we are capable of surviving.

Life isn’t about being happy. It’s about living — fully, painfully, joyfully. Happiness will come and go, but peace comes from accepting the entire spectrum of life as it is.

Just like flowers are not meant to last, a flower given is meant to be appreciated in the moment — to celebrate what it symbolizes: love, appreciation, or simply presence. This is life.

About Me

I’m no one more special than any of you reading this. I work as a custodian during the evenings but every other time of the day I spend chasing a dream I’ve had since I was 16.
I have always believed there to be more to this life and I hope with this blog, my stories and journey in life, that I can share my experiences with all of you.
